Percy French has a long association with Roscommon - his birthplace - from the concerts of the 1950's and the Percy French Scholarship since the 1960's, to the unveiling of his memorial in the 1980's and numerous events of more recent years.
However there has long been a desire to create a central repository of all things Percy French. A museum of his writings, poetry, music, and works of art.
With the success of the 2009 Summer School, The Percy French Council has set out to create just such a resource: The Percy French Room.
Proceeds from this year's School will be put to good use in establishing the Room, and it is hoped that future years' Schools will enable continuous and long-term growth of this resource.
The intention is for the Room to become a valuable library of original Percy French articles, that can be both educational and inspiring for this generation and the next, for the people of Roscommon and indeed visitors from further afield.
Though the Room is in the early stages of its inception, plans are for it to be established near or in Roscommon at an agreed suitable location. Ease of access is a priority for all and it is hoped it will be open to the public from April through to October as well as by appointment at other times.
For the Percy French Room to fulfil its potential, we need your help. You may have Percy French-related material in your home, that would gain a wider audience if shared through the Room.
Maybe there is an old newspaper article, concert poster, page of verse, or even an original drawing - tucked away in your loft, waiting for a suitable home. Perhaps there is a friend or relative who is holding on to a gem - knowingly or otherwise. Why not ask them to have a look?
If you do have something, no matter how small, please don't hesitate to get in touch, and help make the Percy French Room an invaluable resource for everyone!
